Work experience examples

These are sample descriptions, not a candidate’s employment history. Use them to understand the level of detail to aim for.

  • Documented assessments and care plans in the electronic patient record, escalating changes in condition through the clinical team.
  • Coordinated discharge education with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Completed medication checks and shift handovers according to unit procedures.

Add evidence you can explain

Name the type of unit, typical responsibilities and relevant training. Include registration details only where appropriate for the application. List certifications with issuing body and validity dates, and only claim certifications you hold.

Education and qualifications

Include your nursing qualification, institution and completion date. Create a clear registration or certifications section for current credentials relevant to the role.

Writing your first CV

Describe clinical placements as placements. Include the setting, supervised responsibilities and skills practised. Do not imply independent practice or a specialist qualification that you have not earned.

Before you send your application

Follow the employer’s file-format instructions. Use standard section headings and proofread names, dates and contact information. After saving your PDF, check page breaks and confirm that you can select and copy the text in a sensible order.

No template can guarantee an interview or compatibility with every recruitment system. Choose a simple layout when an employer requests one.
