Work experience examples
These are sample descriptions, not a candidate’s employment history. Use them to understand the level of detail to aim for.
- Combined order and customer data with SQL, checked duplicate records and documented the rules used to calculate repeat purchases.
- Created a dashboard for weekly operational reporting, with agreed definitions for each metric.
- Investigated differences between two reporting sources and presented the reconciliation to the operations team.
Add evidence you can explain
Name the business question and the method you used. If you report an improvement, explain the comparison. Avoid claiming that an observed correlation proves that your analysis caused a business outcome.
Education and qualifications
Include relevant education and a small selection of projects. A project should describe the data source, question, method, limitations and output, with a link if it is public.
Writing your first CV
Analyse a public dataset and explain a specific question. Include cleaning and validation, not just a chart. Label the work as a portfolio project and be clear about the limits of the data.
Before you send your application
Follow the employer’s file-format instructions. Use standard section headings and proofread names, dates and contact information. After saving your PDF, check page breaks and confirm that you can select and copy the text in a sensible order.
No template can guarantee an interview or compatibility with every recruitment system. Choose a simple layout when an employer requests one.
