Is the cover letter dead? Not yet. 53% of employers prefer candidates who send one. It's your chance to tell the story your CV can't.
The 3-Paragraph Structure
1. The Hook (Introduction)
Don't start with "I am writing to apply for...". Be engaging. Mention a mutual connection, a recent company achievement, or your passion for the brand.
2. The Pitch (Body)
Connect your skills to their problems. Don't just repeat your CV. Tell a story about a challenge you solved that is relevant to this new role.
3. The Close (Call to Action)
Reiterate your enthusiasm and request an interview. "I would love to discuss how I can help [Company Name] grow."
Cover Letter Tips
- Address a Person: Try to find the hiring manager's name on LinkedIn. "Dear Mr. Smith" is better than "To Whom It May Concern."
- Keep it Short: 250-300 words maximum.
- Match the Tone: Formal for law firms, casual for startups.
