How to List Education on Your CV: Complete Guide

GetHiredCV — free CV creation tools

The education section can be tricky. Should you include your GPA? What about high school? Here are the rules.

Where to Put It?

  • Recent Graduate (0-2 years experience): Put Education at the top, above Experience.
  • Professional (3+ years experience): Put Education at the bottom, below Experience.

What to Include

  • Degree Name (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Computer Science)
  • University/College Name
  • Graduation Year (Optional if >10 years ago to avoid ageism)
  • Honors (Cum Laude, Dean's List) - Only if recent graduate.

What to Leave Out

  • High School (Unless you are currently in high school or have no other degree).
  • GPA (Unless it is exceptionally high, e.g., 3.8+, and you are a fresh grad).
