One size does not fit all. A CV for a Graphic Designer should look very different from one for an Investment Banker. Here is your guide to industry-specific CV formats.
1. Technology & IT
Focus: Skills and Projects.
Tech recruiters want to see your tech stack (languages, frameworks) upfront. Include a "Projects" section with GitHub links. Use a clean, modern layout.
2. Creative Arts (Design, Marketing)
Focus: Portfolio and Visuals.
You have more freedom here. Your CV can be a bit more colorful (but keep it readable). Always include a link to your online portfolio. Use the Functional format to highlight skills.
3. Finance & Law
Focus: Credentials and Experience.
Stick to a conservative, traditional layout (Times New Roman or Serif fonts). Use a Reverse-Chronological format. Professionalism is key.
4. Healthcare & Academia
Focus: Education, Publications, and Certifications.
These CVs (Curriculum Vitae in the academic sense) can be longer than 2 pages. List all research, licenses, and detailed clinical experience.
5. Sales & Customer Service
Focus: Results and Numbers.
Your CV should be metrics-heavy. "Increased sales by 20%" or "Maintained 98% satisfaction rating."
